  • What is a cold saponification reaction?
It is quite simply a chemical reaction that takes place between a fatty substance (which can be an oil, butter, etc.) and an alkaline solution (i.e. a strong base). At the end of this reaction, we obtain a paste which will be put into a mold and left to rest for a few hours or a few days. Then the bar of soap is unmolded and cut into soaps which are placed in “cure” for a period of between 4 and 8 weeks. This cure allows the soap to dry out, i.e. to lose water and therefore harden. The cold saponified soap obtained is surgras because at the end of the saponification reaction there will remain the unsaponified oils and butters constituting this surgras which will nourish and soften the skin. The cold saponification process therefore requires no cooking, which is why it preserves all the benefits of the oils and/or butters. It also makes it possible to preserve the vegetable glycerin formed naturally during the saponification reaction. This vegetable glycerin has a very important role in skin care. It has moisturizing properties and a strong ability to retain water. Thus, the combined action of surgras and glycerin nourishes the skin and protects its hydrolipidic film.
  • How to use the soaps?
Pass the soap under water to moisten it, lather by applying it to the whole body and/or face, then rinse.
  • How to store soaps?
To prevent the soap from melting prematurely, please put it on a soap dish away from water splashes so that it can drain and dry well after each use. We recommend that you preferably take it out of the shower and keep it dry after use. Avoid leaving it under water, or in an unperforated dish.

  • Where does the name bosten come from?
I chose this name for my brand because it has sentimental value to me. It corresponds to the name of our family home which reminds me of all my childhood memories. bostèn is an Arabic word (from Persian بوستان, bûstān “garden”) meaning orchard or garden. Find out more about our story here >>
  • Where are our soaps made?
All our raw materials and all our manufacturing processes are MADE IN TUNISIA. The majority of our activity is mainly done in the Cap-Bon region of Tunisia. This region is located on the coastal zone and it is where I lived all my childhood and my adolescence 😊 To discover this journey in childhood c it's over here >> Our cooperatives of women who distil floral waters and those who make soaps are located in rural areas and do everything by hand in an artisanal way that meets ancestral know-how.
